HARMONICA THEORY

  • "Music Theory" section- The general music theory presented here is applicable to all instruments and not just the harmonica. Increasing your knowledge of music and theory will help you to understand why some musical ideas work well and others don't. This understanding also allows you to communicate your musical thoughts with players of all instruments.

  • "Harmonica Theory" section- The harmonica theory, concepts, and instruction presented are specific for this instrument. Some of these topics will overlap with other sections of the site like the Basic Blues Improv section, but they found their home here.

  • Why so many Harmonica/Position charts? - The "Positions Chart (for all 12 harmonica keys)", "Song to Harmonica Key Chart", and "Interactive Table- Harmonica Key/Positions" pages all have roughly the same information, but from a different perspective. Use whichever makes the most sense to you.

  • Common Musical Terms and Harmonica Terms- These two links will take you directly to the Terms & Definitions section where all these are defined. You'll be surprised how much you can learn about the world of harmonica and music by just reading through this section.

  • Additional websites with Music Theory Instruction- Visit our Links Page for a list of additional websites with Music Theory instruction.
