I have only been learning (diatonic) for a week but I'm getting the hang of single notes, via both whistle method and tongue-blocking. Trying to get the hang of the hand tremolo effect, however, is doing me in. I just can't seem to make an airtight cup - the only way I can get a tremolo is by actually banging my hand against the harmonica as I attempt it. I have followed the instructions both in the teach-yourself style book I'm learning from, and on this site, but I find it very hard to cover the spaces at the back of the harp (at the end nearest my right-hand fingers) and am starting to wonder if it's simply that my hands are too small! Is this a problem anyone else has come across? (Is this why I don't know any other women harmonicists??) Or is there a knack to it that I just haven't picked up yet?
