If what you're describing is the U-block method (see the Terms page here), then the big disadvantage is that this method of making single notes makes it very difficult to learn to bend properly. The best to start with is the whistle method described on this site. After a few months, add your tongue blocking style for octaves and effects.
: First off, great site. I've been playing for about a year now (not too serious) and stumbled on to this site as I was looking for new tunes to play. Lots of great info and taking the lessons for fun. But Anyway....
: I'm self taught and had learned myself by playing single notes 'on top' of the combs. That is that my tongue placement is on the deviding bar between holes. I can hit the notes cleaner and more intense this way. Is this completely wrong and do I have to now change my style of play, or is this normal?
: Thanx in advance and top notes to all.
