pointing a mic at an amp can indeed cause feedback, but not always. usually, a situation causeing feedback involves a mic pointing to an amp it is plugged into. thus, a cycle is started where the same noise is continuously taken into the mic and amplified back into the mic which sends it to get amplified again, and so on. although speaker position must be layed-out carefully so as to prevent a similar cycle, an easy way to make a small amp louder is to have a mic running from a the amp to a PA board.
