: : . Does anyone out there make replacement reed plates for the "Special 20"?

: : No, your best bet in my opinion is to stick with the LO's. I do agree with you though that the sp 20's sound better when you are playing them, but if you record yourself playing both then listen you will not be able to tell the difference between the two. I know I've tried.

: : With the LO's you can get the reed plates and they last much longer. I droped the sp 20's for good when one blew out on me in less than a week.

: Those are the same holes that I always blow out but I don't throw them away. You can still practice over-blows on them and if you blow another reed, it didn't cost you anything. Consider it a junkyard. Pete

I have same problem. Have ruined A,C,Bb,D keys in 5 months. Yesterday I looked under microscope and saw that 5 draw reed was severely cracked at rivet end near end of comb slot. 4 draw was slightly cracked. Since I have blown out 5 hole on 4 different keys, I think it must be that I draw on the 4,5 draw too hard. They can't all be defective since they are different lengths and not from same manufacturing run. Am trying Lee Oscar to see if I like them. Am also modifying technique to go easier on the 4,5 reeds.
