Another amp/mic question and recording question

I'd been wondering some of the same stuff about amps and mics as the others and its been a lot of help. I was just wondeirng if anyone could give me some 'name brand' harmonica mics or names that they trust or like.

I was also wondering if anyone could give me any tips as far as recording goes, i was thinking the best way to find out about recording would be to just give it a try and then go from there. Suggestions on recording would be appreciated.

Also i was wondering if anyone has used distortion or any other various pedals/effects while playing through a harmonica. I tend to think it would kinda be goofy but could be fun while jamming with friends.
