"lightning fast...um...er"

I've been playin harmonica since i was five years old. I stopped when i was ten and started playin guitar. With the guitar i learned that there are modifications, exercises and tecniques to play "lightning fast". When i heard John Popper play on the radio it blew me away!! You can actually sred on a harp!! I pick up a new collection of Hohner Blues Harps (i swear by Hohner!! cant beat em!!lol) but i just cant seem to get lightning fast. I'm open to any sugestions on tecniques, exercises or any modifications i can do to make my speed more efficient. HELP!!!!!!

Walt,

Welcome to the website and the Forums.

I'll start with linking you to an old post where I talk about how to build speed. As you will see in the post below, I firmly believe speed is one of the easiest attributes to obtain on the harmonica if you are willing to put in the time. Here's the link-

One of the techniques I use a lot which sounds fast (and is fast) is "tongue-switching". Here's some posts discussing it-

While we're on the subject of what I do, here's a post discussing my mic and amp setup for live and studio work-

This should get you started. Keep in mind, something as simple as playing higher key harmonicas allows you to play faster than playing the lower ones that require you push more air through them.

Walt,
(sorry for the late response, I got busy on the weekend)

If clicking on the links does not work for you, you can always highlight the link and copy and paste it into a new browser window or tab.

In terms of your problem:

I'm guessing you are on Windows XP and using Internet Explorer as your web browser. All links from the posts in this Forum software will open a new browser window.

It sounds like either you have the IE browser preferences set to not allow links to open another window or you have some sort of virus protection software which is doing the same.
