I was wondering if any of you harp players out there
are old enough to know what "happened" to Paul Butterfield.
I always liked his harp playing when he stayed close to
his blues roots. East-West had some great harp riffs on
it (Work Song is still a classic). But one of my favorites
has to be his harp work with Muddy Waters on Fathers and Sons.
In the late 70's I bought the Muddy Waters "Woodstock" album
and I must say that Paul's harp work is rather bland on
this album. I seem to recall that Paul committed suicide
sometime in the mid 80's but I'm not sure if that is correct.
Anyway I was just wondering if anyone remembers the tale
about how such a magnificient blues harp player faded from
the scene to disappear way before his time.
