: Is it really significantly harder to bend on a wood comb harp such as the Marine Band or Blues Harp?

I have both and find them pretty easy to bend. The main beef some people have with wood combed harps is that they can be a little rougher on the lips and the wood may expand or contract causing them not to be air tight. I'm sure there are many purists who only play Marine Bands. To each his/her own. It's really a matter of personal preference. Play what you enjoy playing. That's really what it's all about. At this point I've purchased so many harps that I tend to play the one I'm in the mood for. I find that for learning something new the special 20s are the most forgiving in terms of angled air flow and responsivenes. As I've developed technique (e.g. bending) with the Special 20s I've gone back to harps I thought were difficult (e.g. Suzuki Promaster) and enjoyed playing it with no problems.

I hope this helps.

Keep on Harpin'
