Beginning the harmonica

Hi,
I came home from college and found a harmonica that had been gifted to my brother, but he has never used it. Since this is an instrument that interested me,I decided now would be a good time to try and learn to play it. And that is how I came across this site.
I have to say that this is a great site, but I do have a few problems.
First, the harmonica that I have is made by Lark, in Shanghai. It has 24 holes in 2 rows (so it has 48 in total). Since there is no mention of harmonicas of this nature on the site, I was wondering if anyone had any information on it. If you go to:

http://www.sh.com/ie/musical/htm/harmonic02.htm

there is a picture of one similar to the harmonica in my possession on the bottom right. The picture has the caption "M1204 24/48, P.B. 10DZ/CTN"

Also, I don't have a lot of musical training, so I was wondering how I might find out what key this instrument is in, and also how I might find out for myself if I ever find myself in this situation again. I also don't have access to any musical instruments, such as a piano (which I have heard may be used to determine these 'things', for lack of a better word, sorry).
I thank anyone in advance who might take the time and effort to read my message and respond to it. I hope to be able to start playing the harmonica soon.
