Believe it or not, my choice would be a C harp, which would be used mainly to play in the keys of C and G. C harmonicas are about as available at music stores as bottled water at a convenience store. Both are probably underappreciated by us professionals who tend to forget about the basics! C harps are great for both the beginners and the seasoned pros!
