Hey Martin...
Matetial by the J.Geils Band; Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones does not even come close to scratching the surface, when it comes to ideas and music material for even the not so-serious harmonica player.
I think that you have already generated a a flood of responses, so as a sailor might say, under these conditions, "Stand by for heavy rolls."
But since this is a friendly site and because we are all friends and fellow harmonica enthusiasts, I will try to be nice...
Check out some of the British hitmakers of the British Invasion of the 1960's. Among those worth checking out include:
The Moody Blues "Go Now" album (1965)
The Beatles early material prior to 1965
The Yardbirds (Keith Relf 1943-1976)
The Hollies early material
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
John Mayall (after the Bluesbreakers)
Among the American artists worth checkin out are:
Kim Wilson
The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Featuring Kim Wilson)
The Butterfield Blues Band (Paul Butterfield 1942-1987)
Stevie Wonder
Terry McMillan
Junior Wells (1934-1998)
Charlie Musselwhite
Jimmy Reed (1925-1976)
Slim Harpo (1924-1970)
Canned Heat
Charlie McCoy
Robert Bonfiglio
There is so much musical potential for the harmonica. There is folk, rock'n'roll, R&B, soul, jazz, pop, and even classical music.
I haven't even scratched the surface, so don't get me started!!!
I did say that I would try to be nice...
Wishing you success in your endeavors,
Patrick
