: : I hope you have or will eventually accept that offer to jam. These are the types of discussions that offer encouragement to many of us. They push us to do things we shouldn't really be afraid to do. I believe as a result of my advice to you all of a sudden 2 weeks later I've found myself in our church choir. I'm scared to death, totally overwhelmed, but I'm learning to sing and enjoying it. As I become more confident and comfortable my voice gets a little stronger each week. I imagine it will be the same with a harp.

: : This choir is a great group of people who also sing as a folk group in the community. You know down the road this folk group is going to have a fun time with a couple of harp songs ;) By the way my wife thinks I have totally gone off the deep end. I guess she liked it better when all I did was bowl and golf

: : Courage and fun to all, Mike

: : Well that answers todays question... sounds
: awesome, have fun!

Hey Guys...
I just read Mike's response to Seamus' post and that reminds me...
I'm stomping on my soapbox to try to chase everyone out of the barrooms, pubs and lounges. (I still enjoy playing secular gigs.)
I will suggest playing in church. A pulpit or an altar, however, is no place to show off, but an opportunity to play in a unique and challenging setting.
In the clubs, your audience often is busy engaging in activities such as boy-meets-girl(field studies in socialogy and physical relationship studies); trying to decide on what to drink; waiting to use the rest room; (maybe) checking out the live music; all the way to learning that boy-meets-girl can be a dangerous activity when jealousy enters the picture.
In church, you can expect to get the undivided attention of almost everyone present. I suggest utilizing the piano or an acoustic guitar. I also recommend both prayer and practice.
Wishing you success in your endeavors,
Patrick
