hohner replacement plates

I've got a dead Big River.

I was thinking about replacing the reeds in a different key (yes, I know that the replacement plates cost more than a Big River). According to Hohner, the replacement plates are better than the originals.

Does anybody have any experience with using replacement plates in Big Rivers?
