: i just found some 30 year old chrome harmonica in my basement. i'm learning how to play it, and everything is fine, except the 9th and 10th holes make absolutely no sounds when you draw from them. i know its probably that i cant breathe properly, but i've tried everything and it just wont work. is there anything i could do to find out if its broken or something? any suggestions?

Hey Erik,
It might be time for a new harmonica.
Seriously, if the harmonica is a Hohner, contact the company. It might need new reeds. If the harmonica is beyond repair, you might be able to exchange it and in return, get a discount on a new one.
If it's not a Hohner, you should get a Hohner (or a Lee Oskar, which I understand is a decent brand.) Personally, I prefer the Special 20, but will play any harmonica...as long as no one else played it first (unless I personally disinfect it).
This site has plenty of great information, which will get you on the right track.
If you get Bluzharper's attention, he can give you much better technical advice than I could. He knows more about harmonica than just how to play it.
Wishing you success in your endeavors,
Patrick
