: Regards to all:
: I have my grandfathers WM.Kratt harmonica.
: (Professional Harmonica,Mello Chromatic No. 10 A440)
: It has leather valves which give a light crackling
: sound when played only on the number 4 hole and the
: number 1 draw is distorted. The sound of the harmonia
: is much superior to my other more expensive ones.
: I wonder if some knows where I might send it to be repaired, possibly replacing the leather valves or
: replacing the valves with plastic ones(I hope it
: won't change the beautiful sound) Any suggestion will be appreciated

Hello Jack -

The leather valves are not the reason for the nice tone. The wood body (comb), and probably thicker reed plates, and better composition brass reeds are the reason for the better tone.

There are two guys I know of who might be able to work on your chromatic; Bill Romel of Custom-Crafted Harmonicas in Las Vegas, and John Infande in Florida are both experts on chromatics. You can find them with a good search engine (google, alta vista, etc.) on the web.

Good luck! Regards, Jeremy c/o JSteinberg@ucwphilly.rr.com
