When I started getting into music rhythm was really a problem for me too... One thing I did that seemed to help a lot was that whenever I was driving I tapped my foot(not the one you use to press the gas pedal) with the beat of the music I was listening to. Doing this all the time kind of set my internal metronome and made it second nature... Then if you want to get even more adventurous you can tap your finger 2, 3, and 4 times for every foot tap to get eighths, triplets, and sixteenths. Hope it helps. It worked wonders for me...
