I agree completely. He's fast, he's clean, he jams but NO SOUL. It's like comparing Steve Vai and David Gilmore (Pink Floyd). Lightning licks vs heart and passion. I guess it depends on what you like.
My friends insisted that I play Popper stuff once when we jammed together and I said "yeah right". I found it easier to fake him than Little Walter. All I really did was "slip and slide" the harp around the right notes (somewhat "right"). It wasn't exact but sounded good.

: Just curious about your opinions of john popper. I've got a blues traveller live album, and it's great. they're a really good band, but i think popper gets in the way. he needs to sit back, relax, and let the band groove out more
: He seems kinda like ynvie malmsteen: a virtuoso, fast and notey with not much soul.
