A TRANSITION FROM diatonic to chromatic --- problematic?

I play diatonic and am interested in learning chromatic. But I am afraid that because the note layout is different -- my diatonic playing will suffer.
(1)Is it easy to switch between?
(2)Can you play tabs the same way (using the same holes) on a chromatic as a diatonic?
