: : one quick question, as a beginner we have been told to start with a C harp, I personally find the lower keyes (lower than C) to be a little less piercing, more pleasant to listen to. Which key is used most often once you get past the beginner stage????

: The C harp is the middle, or close to it, of the scale. If your talkin Blues, A ton of Music is done in G, so the C harp is in the 4 or second position. Its used a lot. Followed by the A harp and D harp, for guitar in E & A. For slide guitar songs, a lot of which are done in D, or when a guitar is tuned to D, you use a G harp. I carry C A D G E Bb and F harps to the Jams. Hope this helps..........bluz

Bluzharper, thanks for your response. I find the C harp much more pleasant when I am practicing cross harp (G) licks/riffs versus 1st position playing. I have blown out my C special 20 twice (I know, welcome to the world of harping) and started to wonder if I should replace it or just buy some other key.
