I've been at it for five months now and just learned to hit all of the draw bends on the harp. This is not to say that I nail 'em dead on when needed. I can just play them when I try. Anyway, it sounds like your on your way. I found that it took some time to develop the muscles, and the control over those muscles, that are required for bending and playing in general. In fact, I still have a long, long way to go. I also find that if I practice too long I can't do squat becuase those tiny muscles get exhausted. It's like going to the gym - enough work is enough work - anything more is doing no good.

Also, regarding your "cheap" harp - you should be able to get a darn good harp for about US $20. As a beginner myself, I have tried wood and plastic comb harps. I have found the plastic comb harps MUCH easier to play, especially bends. Lee Oskars and Hohner Special 20s would work great.
