I front and sing so being cheap (skint) and lazy I use the same SM58 for both vocal and harp. I don't know if I get the sounds I want but people don't seem to care much as long as you play well and with feeling. I've thought about using effects but I believe I've got more to learn from playing it clean just yet. I've played Country Rock and Blues and use a variety of harps and occasionally a chromatic.
I used to use a Audio Technica condenser mic and that worked really well at gigs. The best sound I've heard thoough has been through a blues blaster which had it's own volume control but our sax player has used the clip on mic from his sax and still gets the dirty sounds I think really work.
Just keep on playing and if we all get different sounds hey that's innovation, someone out there is going to want to sound like you and they might come up with something new trying to get that sound they thought they heard.
