: Tarnish from my harmonica? I've had my Hohner special 20 ( my first) for about two months and about a week or so ago I started noticing that the mouth piece is starting to turn to something like a light brown color over certain areas. It doesn't seem to have done anything to the sound or anything like that but it looks nasty and I was wondering if anyone here might know what causes that (so i could prevent it with my next harmonica) and how to get rid of it.
There is a way to keep it from coming back, if you so choose. Cover the plates with clear packing tape. Option 2 is to buy Lee Oskar harps, which have stainless steel plates which do not corrode. Option 3 (my personal choice) is to view the tarnish as a badge of honor--that you've spent enough time with your harp to give it that used look. Think Willie Nelson's guitar.
Blow your brains out,
