: I previously left a message concerning the 1973 Fender Champ that I recently purchased (Thanks again Ron!). As Ron suggested, I'm going to replace the 12ax7 tube with a 12au7. However, I noticed that there are many different name brands. Mullard, GE, Groove, and Sylvania. Is there a certain name brand I should get? Also, what is a vaccum tube and what is NOS?

N O S = new old stock tubes, meaning new but made years ago.
Most if not all tubes are made with a vaccum inside or they are filled with rarified gasses.
Thus vaccum tube.
IMHO look for an american made NOS tube.
Best to You.Bluz
