Hey toni,
Heres my suggestions: Stick with this site for beginner info along with Gindicks beginner stuffs...I have portnoys stuff, it's great but not for beginners. If you have 12 bar blues under your belt or feel committed to learning it you might want to check it out, otherwise leave it for after the basics. There will be cheaper harps for you beloved five year old to learn on, try one of them to save a few dollars. Get a plastic combed harp as I think wooden combs would be too harsh on the little ones mouth, they're kinda harsh on mine to start with too. Check out your local library for any play-alongs or childrens cds, these can sometimes be played along to as well. Christmas songs are good fun, simple first position tunes. All the best.
