: Has anyone used a Pignose G40v or G60vr Tube amp, how do they sound? Also what is a suggested amp wattage to have for Live harp playing with a full band, in bars that seat around 100-200? Is it best to mic that amp through the p.a.?

First off I have no experience with Pignose amps. Ive heard good things about them on harp-l. That would be a good place to research that issue. As far as amp wattage, several things come into play. First, how loud is the band? Guitar players have a tendency to believe louder is better. Without micing a harp amp, with loud guitars, I would want at least a Bassman RI about 40 watts depending on the Room. If you can mic the harp amp all the better. Ive seen guys play an outdoor venue using a small amp miced. Now you get into location of equipment on stage to prevent looping of sound and feedback problems. You learn about this the hard way sometimes. Dont set a harp amp miced too close to a loud guitar amp or the drum set. This is why a Shure 57 is a good mic for your amp, the pick up pattern is smaller. A good sound person is priceless......
