I own a 1965 (blackface) champ and love it. I understand that the silver face is exactly the same amp but will cost you slightly less dough due becuase they are slightly "less vintage". The only difference is that the blackface has a black face where the controls are and the silver face has, you guessed it, a silver face. I replaced the 12ax7 tube with a 12au7 and got excellent results. Mess with that if you want to but it is not necessary. These older Fenders are built, as we say in the US like "brick out houses" which means really tough. If you take good care of it it will really hold up for you. If you can find a silver face or black face champ at a fair price, buy it! Oh yeah, the point to point wiring is great becuase it makes the amp really easy for a qualified technician to service. You can also make modifications really easilly if you want but I would advise against it.
