I always enjoy seeing people post about their first jam session. Well, this one wasn't mine by a long shot, but it was the first time anybody HAD one in my area, and it was the first time I went with just harmonica eqipment.
Some blessed individuals re-established a blues society in my area, and we kicked 'er off with a blues jam. It was one of those sparsely played and well attended affairs ((GREAT for the musicians, in a way) and needless to say I had a blast.

I would advise anybody this: Go! There is a room full of people, musicians and audience members -- some better 'n' you, some not -- and they ALL want you to get up there and they want nothing more than to see and hear you do your finest and enjoy yourself. Go and do. Meet. Schmooze. Give compliments, get them, ask questions, be gracious.

The coolest thing was seeing someone I KNOW to be an amazingly talented jazz / classical guitarist sitting there with his eyes closed, grooving along. When we were all done (he didn't play), he announced from the door, "Hey, thanks for the music, everyone."

That's it: Thanks for the music. So cool.
