: Does anyone have any insight on the proper technique for playing harmonica into a microphone, live or in the studio? Also, is there a type of microhpone that is particularly useful for this? Vocal or instrument mic? Shure 58, 57, or what? Thank you
Just about any mike will probably get you some nice results, as long as you avoid feedback.
However...for the best results, I recommend the Green Bullet microphone. It's probably one of the easiest mikes to handle when you're playing harmonica.
Check out books by such super-pros as Charlie Musselwhite and Jon Gindick for some great playing tips.
And just in case you get impatient and try to jump ahead of yourself, remember that it's all about tone.
