: I just got back from trying a fender Blues Jr.. I thought the sound was a little muffled and the price was 300 dollars. I was using a JT-30 mic. Does anyone have any advice or is familiar with this amp-- Thanks-- Pete

Pete,
Thats the going price, most common mod to this amp is to change one of the pre amp tubes to a 12 AU 7 instead of the 12 AX 7 the a x has a 100% amplification factor and the a u is about 17% this gives you more room before feedback but slightly lowers the overall out put watts. You can also use a AY or AT tube. I like the BJ with a green bullet mic. Checkout Harmony Central for reviews of harp players using BJs, they usually tell thier tricks for set ups . One way to really check out a new amp is to get the best harp player you can find and let him blow thru it, then you know whats amp and whats player ;>).

For a good tube amp to start with, go to musicyo.com and checkout the Electar 10 watt tuber for about $100+ has a 8" speaker, standby switch and they sound good. Play it till the speaker blows then go to weber vst and get a vintage series 8". I use to mic one of these into the pa at a blues jam, everyone liked the sound.

Best to ya Pete..
