What goes in, comes out. You had to ask that question. Most will agree tone comes from the player, not the mic, amp and effects. When I was going to jams in Detroit I would take my Bassman amp, Danecho pedal and Kevins Harp Crystal Ball Mic. One night after I did my turn another harp player asked to use my rig. Go for it I said, he sounded awesome and totally different. The only change, he was using Golden Melodys and I was using SP 20`s. The big difference in the sound came from his 19 years of playing. You can get a fat Chicago tone from the right rig, now what are you going to do with it? What goes in comes out. So if your playing is weak, so is your fat Chicago tone. Ive seen a lot of Pros use effects. Carey Bell uses a octave pedal, the harp player for Big Al and the Heavy Weights had enough stuff with him on stage to start a music store. He sounded awesome. First things first, ya gotta know how to play..
