One of our local Blues clubs had a last minute band cancelation for St. Pats. night. I was asked to play with a sort of throw together band that included two guitar players, a sax, keyboard, drummer, bass, and a very talented vocalist, to help the club owner out. We were each paid $50 a free meal and free Beer for the gig. Most of the musicians I had played with before at local jams and thru my bad habit of sitting in with any band that will let me. We went thru all the classics and had the dance floor packed. It went over so well we were asked to make it a St. Pats tradition and were invited back next year. The vocalist asked each of us if we were open to other gigs. It really pays to be ready and willing to play. Of course we had the usual problems a throw together band has, guitars a little too loud, and a messed up bass line here and there, but it helped out a friend in need. You never know when opportunity will knock, Be Ready...
