Never under any circumstances should you soak a chromatic harmonica. The majority of chromatics sold still have wood combs. They all have windsavers valves that would be immediately ruined by immersion in any liquid.
P.S. Don't buy used harmonicas unless it is for display purposes. They typically play poorly and it's not sanitary.
: If the harmonica has a frame that is not wood, I recommend a soaking in denture cleaner. It will do a good job of cleaning (not as good as taking it apart, but not as invasive either),and it will have a fresh, minty taste!
: : I recently purchased an old, used MHoner Super Chromatic harmonica. My problem is this: how do I clean it and rid it of the "moldy" taste? Any suggestions? Thank-you!
