"bending"

Hello,
A problem I find when trying to bend the notes is that when I "practice" bending I get it right(I use a tuner which indicates visually the notes, sharps, flats etc). However when I am "playing" tabs etc I lose the ability to bend the notes in a song!
Any ideas?
Thanks,
JohnM

The short answer is more practice. It sounds like you need more practice bending "in context" with the neighboring notes and hitting the bends on demand.

I would practice some bending riffs:

4D 4D-b 4D
4D-b 4D 4D-b
and add to these the neighboring notes, make up some of your own that move from one note to another to another with the bent notes in there. This will give you practice playing in context.

Practice the Blues scale up and down:
2D 3D-b 4B 4D 4D-b 5D 6B

The tack on the lower scale (finished with the lower portion of the regular scale)
2D 2D-bb 1D 1D-b 1B 3D-b 2D

I'd also suggest learing and practicing the tabs and songs on this site that have some bends in them so you get comfortable bending in context.

Good luck

Alan
